It has been said that Pendleton is where the sun goes to spend the winter in Oregon. Our weather in Pendleton is quite mild during the winter, and rather hot and dry in the summer months. All four seasons are well defined, and the change of the seasons very much follows the solace dates of the calender. Located at the base of the Blue Mountains we get a bit more rainfall than the arid area to the west of Pendleton. Our winter temperatures are milder than the temperatures in the mountains 15 miles east of town, or out in the desert 10 miles west of city center. Therefore our steelhead fishing season, in downtown Pendleton, is some of the best in the Pacific Northwest, due to the mild winter climate we have. The area surrounding Pendleton is very much agricultural, with dry land wheat being the main cash crop.

The view from Cabbage Hill, in the background of the above photo, one can see the Cascade Mountain Range (Mt. Rainier to the Three Sisters) which is over 200 miles to the west. Pendleton is the big sky country, and this is the "Real West".

The Eastern Oregon Regional Airport is located here.We have numerous flights in and out of Pendleton each day via Horizon Air/Alaska Airlines which is a connector of Northwest Airline. Our national rental car service at the airport is Hertz, with several local rental services available. These rental services offer cars, vans, and 4x4 sports utility vehicles.

Accommodations in Pendleton are of ample supply, except during Round Up, which you should book for at least six (6) months in advance.

There is also the Southeast Washington Regional Airport located in Pasco, WA 75 miles to our north. The airlines that service Pasco are American/ American Eagle Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Horizon Air, Northwest Airlines, and United Express. Pasco automobile rentals have all the national chains available.

The history of Pendleton is rich in the traditions of the west, and was one of the main resting, staging points on the Oregon Trail. Today many of the buildings on Main Street were built in the 1800's. Blue Mountain Anglers and Fly Shop, LLC sits on the east bank of the Umatilla River and the street (Westgate /Hwy.30) in front of our store is part of the old Oregon Trail.
